A 45-year-old psychologist has been arrested in Nagpur for allegedly blackmailing and sexually exploiting at least 50 students over the past 15 years. The accused, who ran a clinic and residential program in east Nagpur, faces serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to the Hudkeshwar police, the accused targeted students—particularly girls—by offering promises of personal and professional growth. He organized various trips and camps, during which he allegedly sexually abused students, took explicit photographs, and used those images to blackmail them into silence.
The crime came to light after a former student, who was being blackmailed by the accused, courageously approached the police. This disclosure prompted authorities to launch a detailed investigation into the psychologist's long-running abuse.
Police officials noted that several victims are now married and may be reluctant to come forward due to fear of social stigma and family repercussions. This hesitation could hinder the investigation, making it more challenging to uncover the full extent of the abuse.
To address this sensitive situation, police have formed a special committee dedicated to assisting victims and ensuring a thorough investigation. Authorities are urging survivors to step forward, assuring them of safety, confidentiality, and legal support.
