Nuh, Haryana — A joint team from the health department and police raided an unlicensed private clinic in Taoru on August 4, 2025, seizing a cache of medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kits, banned drugs, and surgical equipment. This action forms part of Haryana’s reverse‑tracking initiative, which flags terminations beyond 12 weeks and cross‑verifies data with ultrasounds, birth/death registries, and missing girl‑child reports.
The raid at Care Well Clinic occurred on orders from civil surgeon Dr Sarabjeet Thapar and was led by district PNDT nodal officer Dr Manpreet Singh. The suspect, identified as a doctor named Jyoti, reportedly fled before the team arrived; however, her identity card was recovered. Officials confirmed the facility had no registration under the Clinical Establishments Act and lacked an abortion licence.
Seized materials include misoprostol tablets, dilation‑and‑curettage (D&C) sets, tramadol, Velthamate, ferranemin injections, surgical tools, and other Schedule H drugs requiring prescription and medical supervision. Health officials suspect misuse of over‑the‑counter abortion pills.
A health department official said all seized items have been sealed and will undergo chemical analysis. A case is being filed under the MTP Act and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act (Sections 18 and 27). A report will be submitted to the Drug Controller and the district medical board.
Since the state‑level Special Task Force (STF) was formed in February 2025, Haryana has filed 29 FIRs under reverse tracking procedures.
During the STF meeting on August 5, 2025, officials reported that 32 FIRs were filed in July 2025, resulting in 32 arrests for suspected illegal abortions flagged via reverse tracking. In total, 38 notices were issued to private hospitals and clinics for possible violations of the MTP and PCPNDT Acts.
The STF also noted that 32 FIRs and arrests occurred in July alone, and additional FIRs are in process. The state’s sex ratio at birth improved from 899 (January 1–July 31, 2024) to 907 in the same period in 2025.
