Pediatrician Fired Over Controversial Social Media Post

Dr. Christina B. Propst, a Houston-based pediatrician, has been terminated from Blue Fish Pediatrics following a controversial social media post that mocked victims of the devastating Texas floods. The remarks, shared under an older username "Chris Tina", quickly ignited a firestorm of criticism across social media.

The Content of the Controversial Post

The post read:"May all visitors, children, non-MAGA voters and pets be safe and dry. Kerr County MAGA voted to gut FEMA. They deny climate change. May they get what they voted for. Bless their hearts."

These comments surfaced as Texas grappled with widespread flooding that claimed more than 100 lives, leaving communities in mourning.

Social Media Backlash and Public Outrage

The controversial message swiftly gained traction after a screenshot was shared by the conservative account Libs of TikTok, leading to widespread outrage. Many found the comments to be deeply insensitive, especially in light of the human tragedy unfolding across the state.

Social Media Backlash and Public Outrage

Blue Fish Pediatrics initially announced Dr. Propst's suspension, but shortly thereafter confirmed her termination.

That post does not reflect the values, standards, or mission of Blue Fish Pediatrics. We do not support or condone any statement that politicizes tragedy, diminishes human dignity, or fails to clearly uphold compassion for every child and family, regardless of background or beliefs.

There is no place for politicization. The entire focus needs to be on looking for survivors. Any complaints we may receive will be thoroughly investigated.
Dr. Sherif Zaafran, Head of the Texas Medical Board

In the wake of the incident, Dr. Propst’s name and profile have been removed from the websites of both Blue Fish Pediatrics and Memorial Hermann Health System. Memorial Hermann, where Dr. Propst was affiliated but not employed, released their own statement:

We are aware of statements made by a physician on social media and strongly condemn these statements. This provider is not employed by Memorial Hermann. We have zero tolerance for such rhetoric which does not reflect the mission, vision or values of our system."

Tragic Impact of the Texas Floods

The tragic flash flooding on the Guadalupe River in central Texas has resulted in at least 80 fatalities, with additional individuals still missing, including 11 girls and one counselor from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp.

Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly.
Team Camp Mystic (All-girls Christian Summer Camp)

Concerns Over Weather Forecast and Emergency Response

The Guadalupe River saw a rapid rise of over 20 feet in less than two hours during the July 4th flood.

While the weather service had issued a flood watch for parts of south-central Texas, including Kerr County, with projections of up to 3 inches of rain, some areas experienced far greater amounts. Texas officials have suggested the weather service underestimated the rainfall, although former weather service officials contend their forecasts were reasonable given the storm's rapid escalation. Questions have also been raised regarding potential staffing shortages at the weather service and their impact on coordination with local emergency managers during the crisis.
