Dogs are always curious and fond of chewing, but at times this can prove to be fatal. They do not just nibble on things, they tend to pick up whatever is available within their reach, be it a shoe, socks, toys, or even furniture. Although at times this could be funny, it can have serious health complications when they pick up things that they should not. One of these was the case of a young Bernese Mountain Dog named Luna, whose stomach was full of an incredible list of items, including 24 socks, hair ties, and a onesie.
According to an Instagram post from the Corona Animal Emergency Center, seven-month-old Luna was brought to the hospital after experiencing severe vomiting and showing signs of abdominal discomfort. The veterinary team conducted an examination and were left stunned by what they discovered. X-rays revealed her stomach was packed with clothing, prompting immediate surgical intervention. "We found 24 socks, a scrunchie, two hair ties, a shoe insert, a small onesie (lodged in her intestines), and other fabric pieces," the hospital reported while sharing images of the shocking discovery.
To save Luna’s life, the vets performed multiple procedures, including a gastrotomy to clear her stomach and an enterotomy to remove the onesie that had caused a dangerous intestinal blockage. The hospital later posted an update showing Luna in recovery, alongside a photo of the bizarre assortment of items removed from her stomach. "Luna is recovering much better now after receiving emergency surgery to remove dozens of foreign objects," the team posted.
After this incident, the hospital sent a reminder to pet owners, emphasizing the need to keep their pets under observation to avoid them consuming non-food items. They described Luna’s case as a testament to both the necessity of emergency veterinary care and the resilience of animals. "Prevention is key, but emergencies happen, and we are always here to help. Thank you to Luna’s family for trusting us with her care and to everyone who has sent love and support her way. She's one special dog, and we feel blessed to be a part of her story."
