RAJASTHAN: National. Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities who had worked tirelessly to save Aryan. The 5-year-old fell into a 150-foot-deep borewell in Kalighat village, Dausa district in Rajasthan, despite a 56-hour-long rescue operation the young boy could not survive.
Aryan fell into the borewell around 3:00 PM barely 100 feet away from his house as his mother saw it happen before her eyes. A swift action was initiated by the rescue team. Yet after being pulled out and rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead by the authorities.
The child was immediately rushed to the hospital. He could not survive, probably because he had hit upon some hard object as he fell. That may have caused the fatal injuries. This, along with food and water and environmental conditions inside the borewell, he said, may have contributed to his untimely death. The rescue attempt was marred with challenges. The movements of the child had stopped around 2:00 AM despite continuous oxygen supply.
Several onlookers, meanwhile, had gathered as the rescue operation progressed and the rescue personnel raced against time. They tried to complete the digging at the earliest and save the minor
A piling machine was used to dig a pit 20 feet away from the bore well. A makeshift tool including an L-shaped hook and other ‘jugaad’ techniques were also used, but they failed. An umbrella was used beneath our end to prevent him from falling further down. Unfortunately, the piling machine also broke down and delayed the efforts by another 3 to 4 hours
The team resumed its operation by digging a pit near the borewell with another machine. They were successful in retrieving Aryan’s lifeless body only after a 56-hour-long struggle.
The tragic death of the young boy has brought forth concerns in the community regarding the efficacy of prolonged rescue attempts and concerns about the safety of open borewells.
