A woman from Bengaluru has started a conversation all over the internet about workplace toxicity.
In a video from the Tech Roast Show, now trending on Instagram, she described how her former manager threw a dell mouse at her face after she made a mistake at work.
The woman, who spoke anonymously, recalled the incident while discussing her worst job experiences, during a comedy show last year. She said it happened on her last day at a Mumbai-based office.
The show is hosted by comedians Nikita Oster, Austin Nasso, and Jesse Warren. The clip from the Tech Roast Show was posted a few days ago and have gained virality over the internet.
“I was deeply traumatized by the incident,” the woman told HT.com.
She explained that ever since then, whenever she joins a new workplace, she makes it a point to let employers know she expects issues to be addressed with empathy rather than anger.
She also recalled that her former manager frequently yelled at her and other team members whenever he lost his temper.
A recent study, "Impact of Toxic Leadership on Employee Performance," published in Health Psychology Research, examined how toxic leadership affects employees. [1]
The research found that behaviors such as abusive communication, lack of empathy, and erratic management significantly contribute to workplace deviance.
Emotional exhaustion was identified as a key factor mediating this relationship, while organizational cynicism moderated the effects. The study highlights the critical need to address toxic leadership in order to improve workplace dynamics and protect employee well-being.
The viral clip has reached over 2 lakh views and attracted numerous comments about toxic work culture and the importance of a safe, respectful workplace.
While some users empathized with the woman sharing her worst job experience, many advised her to take the matter to court.
One user commented, "this should not be normalized." and many others were even shocked to know that she didn't press charges. "How is this even legal?" one of the Instagram user posted in the comment section.
