Dr. Jawad Ahmad Faces MPTS Misconduct Hearing in UK After Leaving for Pakistan Amid Sexual Harassment Claims

A UK medical tribunal has begun hearing allegations of sexual harassment and professional misconduct against Dr. Jawad Ahmad, former NHS urology registrar at Royal Stoke University Hospital, despite his absence from the proceedings.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing, which commenced on August 3, 2026, is examining allegations that Dr. Ahmad sexually harassed a junior colleague in 2020 and failed to disclose his arrest on suspicion of a criminal offence before signing an NHS contract extension.

According to the BBC, Staffordshire Police said Dr. Ahmad left the United Kingdom around five years ago after the allegations were raised and is believed to be in Pakistan.

The Dr. Jawad Ahmad MPTS hearing is scheduled to conclude on August 14, will determine whether the allegations amount to professional misconduct and whether his fitness to practise is impaired.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service is considering six allegations of misconduct involving Dr. Ahmad's interactions with a junior doctor, identified only as Ms. A, while both worked at Royal Stoke University Hospital, part of University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, in 2020.

According to the allegations presented before the tribunal, Dr. Ahmad is alleged for a NHS sexual harasment case because:

• Invited the junior doctor to dinner on multiple occasions.

• Asked to visit her home to collect books.

• Hugged her while she was attempting to leave.

• Pushed her into a chair.

• Massaged her back and shoulders.

• Kissed her without her consent.

The General Medical Council (GMC) alleges that these actions were sexually motivated, carried out without Ms. A's consent, and constituted an abuse of Dr. Ahmad's senior professional position.

The tribunal has not yet determined whether any of these allegations are proven.

In addition to the allegations involving his colleague, the tribunal is examining claims that Dr. Ahmad acted dishonestly by allegedly failing to disclose his arrest before signing a contract extension with University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust on June 22, 2020.

According to the General Medical Council (GMC), Dr. Jawad Ahmad had been arrested two days earlier on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at Trentham Monkey Forest in Stoke-on-Trent.

The regulator alleges that Dr. Ahmad had a professional obligation to inform his employer of the arrest before accepting the contract extension but failed to do so because he wanted the contract to proceed.

The MPTS hearing is considering whether Dr. Ahmad's alleged failure to disclose the arrest constituted professional misconduct. It is not determining criminal guilt regarding the underlying criminal allegation.

Staffordshire Police said Dr. Ahmad left the United Kingdom around five years ago after the sexual harassment allegations were raised and is believed to be in Pakistan.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said authorities would be notified if Dr. Ahmad returned to the UK or travelled to another country that supports extradition, adding that he would then be arrested and interviewed in connection with the ongoing criminal investigation.

Police also confirmed that the complainant has been kept informed about developments in the case.

Although Dr. Ahmad is not participating in the proceedings, the tribunal determined that the hearing should continue in his absence.

The hearing began on August 3, 2026, and is scheduled to continue until August 14, 2026.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, an independent body that determines doctors' fitness to practise in the UK, has not yet reached findings on the facts of the case. It has also not decided whether Dr. Ahmad's fitness to practise is impaired or whether any disciplinary action should be taken.

According to the current tribunal listing, the outcome of the hearing and any decision on impairment have not yet been issued.

Until the tribunal delivers its decision, all allegations remain under consideration, and no findings of misconduct have been made against Dr. Ahmad.
