Cup vs Pouch Amul Masti Dahi: Viral Lab Test Hygiene Claims Denied by Amul
New Delhi, January 9, 2026: A video circulating on WhatsApp and social media platforms has sparked debate over the quality and hygiene of Amul’s Masti Dahi. The video was based on laboratory test reports shared by Trustified.
The video compares two variants of Amul Masti Dahi, one sold in a pouch and the other in a cup. Trustified conducted multiple levels of lab tests on both variants, including macronutrient analysis, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiological testing. Amul has further issued a public interest notice regarding the matter to clarify the consumers about the quality of the respective product.
Trustified is a platform that provides laboratory testing of health products and supplements for label accuracy and the presence of heavy metals, chemicals, and microbial contamination.
Trustified’s Test Findings and Claims on Amul's Masti Dahi
Trustified highlighted an approximate 40 percent price difference between the two, with the pouch variant costing Rs. 35 for 400 grams and the cup variant priced at Rs. 50 for the same quantity. According to Trustified, four levels of testing were conducted on both the pouch and cup variants of Amul Masti Dahi. The video stated that no major discrepancies were found between the macronutrients claimed on the label and the actual nutrient content.
However, Trustified reported that later stages of testing showed a high level of microbial contamination in the pouch packaged than the cup packaged dahi.
The video concluded that consumers buying the cheaper pouch variant may be receiving a product with poorer hygiene, while those purchasing the more expensive cup variant may be getting a product with better hygiene.
Amul Responds to Viral Allegations by Trustified
In response to the viral video, Amul issued a notice addressing the claims and stated that such content is being used to spread misinformation and create unnecessary fear and concern among consumers.
Amul clarified that dahi is a live product containing healthy bacteria and must be handled carefully as per the instructions mentioned on the packaging. The company said it was unsure how the samples used for testing were drawn or handled prior to laboratory analysis.
Company Cites Compliance With FSSAI Standards
Amul said it reviewed its manufacturing process and quality clearance reports for batch number SR04CM bearing the use by date 07 December 2025. According to the company, the Amul Masti Dahi pack meets all quality requirements specified under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, as well as Amul’s internal quality standards.
The company added that Amul Masti Dahi is manufactured in ISO certified dairies using state of the art facilities and undergoes more than 50 stringent quality tests, including several hygiene related tests, before being dispatched to consumers.
Why Amul Masti Dahi Cup Costs More Than the Pouch: Amul Clarifies
Addressing the price difference between the pouch and cup variants, Amul stated that both products undergo the same processing and hygiene steps, with the only difference being the packaging. The company said the higher cost of the cup variant is due to the increased cost of packaging materials and has no relation to hygienic standards.
Amul Flags Misinformation on Social Media
Amul further stated that the claims were incorrectly reported by local media publications and later circulated on social media platforms without verification. The company reiterated that Amul Masti Dahi meets all regulatory and internal quality requirements.
