Can you share your experience of preparing for the NEET MDS exam? What was your study strategy, and how did you manage your time during preparation?
Dr. Nancy Verma: When preparing for NEET MDS, I focused on consistency and a clear study plan. I allocated specific hours each day to cover essential topics and revisited important areas through revisions. I relied heavily on standard textbooks, solved multiple question banks, and regularly tested myself with mock exams to track my progress. Time management was crucial, so I broke down my syllabus into manageable portions and followed a timetable strictly, ensuring both study time and rest were balanced.
What were the key challenges you faced while preparing for NEET MDS, especially balancing family life and studies as a mother? How did you overcome them?
Dr. Nancy Verma: As a mother, the most significant challenge was balancing my studies with family responsibilities. It was particularly tough when my child needed more attention, and I had to maintain focus on my preparation. To overcome this, I set smaller, achievable goals each day, and utilized short study sessions during my child’s naps or after their bedtime. Support from my family was vital. My spouse and parents helped manage household tasks, allowing me to concentrate on my studies during crucial periods.
Looking back, is there anything you wish you had done differently during your NEET MDS preparation?
Dr. Nancy Verma: Reflecting on my journey, I wish I had started preparing earlier and taken more time for self-care during the process. The stress of preparation can take a toll on your mental and physical health, so it’s important to maintain balance. One of the key lessons I learned was the importance of pacing yourself and seeking help when needed—whether it’s for studies or personal responsibilities.
Can you walk us through your journey from being an MDS student to now being a senior lecturer? What inspired you to pursue academia?
Dr. Nancy Verma: Transitioning from being an MDS student to a Assistant Professor has been a fulfilling journey. My passion for academia was sparked during my MDS when I realized how much I enjoyed mentoring junior students. The opportunity to impact young minds and contribute to research was inspiring. Academia allows me to balance clinical work with teaching, which is incredibly rewarding.
How did you manage the demands of being a mother while pursuing your MDS? What strategies helped you balance both responsibilities?
Dr. Nancy Verma: Balancing motherhood and pursuing MDS was challenging but taught me valuable time management skills. I made sure to be present for my family while dedicating focused time to my studies. Early morning and late-night study sessions became routine, and I also learned to be more efficient with my time, avoiding distractions and staying organized.
Now, as a senior lecturer and a mother, how do you reflect on that time in your life? Has it influenced the way you mentor or guide students who may also be juggling multiple roles?
Dr. Nancy Verma: Looking back, I can confidently say that managing both roles has made me more empathetic as a mentor. I understand the pressures students may face when juggling multiple responsibilities, and I aim to provide guidance that is both practical and supportive. My experience has helped me become more patient and understanding toward students who are balancing personal and professional commitments.
What advice would you give to future NEET MDS aspirants, particularly those balancing other responsibilities like parenthood or full-time jobs?
Dr. Nancy Verma: For future NEET MDS aspirants, especially those juggling parenthood or a job, my advice would be to plan and prioritize. Create a study schedule that fits your routine and be realistic about what you can achieve in a given time frame. Don’t hesitate to ask for help—whether from family, friends, or colleagues. Most importantly, believe in your ability to succeed. The journey may be tough, but with dedication and a support system in place, it’s achievable.
