Dholpur, Rajasthan: Tensions turned violent at a private hospital in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district after a 27-year-old woman died a week after giving birth, leading her family members to assault Dr Anil Jaiswal, a gynaecologist at Bharat Hospital, and other hospital staff on Friday evening.
The incident occurred at Bharat Hospital, where the woman had initially delivered her baby. Following her death, a group of relatives and local residents stormed the hospital premises, physically attacking the on-duty doctor and vandalizing the facility. Videos of the assault, captured on CCTV cameras inside the hospital, later surfaced online, showing the scale of the violence.
According to available details, the woman was admitted to Bharat Hospital on January 20 for childbirth and delivered successfully. She was discharged after the delivery. However, her condition reportedly deteriorated the same evening, prompting her family to bring her back to the hospital.
Doctors referred her to Agra for further treatment. She remained under medical care there for nearly five days, but her health did not improve. The family later shifted her to SMS Hospital in Jaipur, where she died during treatment.
Her death triggered anger among her relatives, who returned to the Dholpur hospital and confronted the medical staff.
CCTV footage from inside the hospital shows a group of around 10 to 15 people entering the premises and attacking the doctor and staff members. The visuals show the doctor being hit with a chair and a helmet, while others were punched and kicked.
The doctor sustained injuries to his hands and legs during the assault. His mobile phone was also taken during the chaos. Several hospital employees were injured as they tried to intervene or escape.
At the time of the attack, the doctor was reportedly present at the hospital for emergency medical work.
Local police arrived at the scene after being alerted and managed to control the situation. An FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by the hospital management. Police confirmed that several people were detained for questioning in connection with the incident.
Officials said they are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify all those involved in the violence. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Hospital authorities stated that the patient had been referred to higher medical centers when her condition worsened and that appropriate medical steps were taken at every stage. Police officials said they are also looking into the sequence of medical treatment to establish all facts surrounding the woman’s death.
