Senior pediatric surgeon Dr. Kishore Panjwani passed away on December 8, 2025, at Synergy Plus Hospital in Agra after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 61 years old. His death was confirmed by local news reports and tributes shared by colleagues and members of the medical community.
Dr. Panjwani had been undergoing treatment for cancer for more than two decades. Despite repeated illnesses and major medical procedures, he continued his clinical work for several years.
Dr. Panjwani completed his MBBS in 1982 from Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra. He later pursued MCh in Pediatric Surgery from Banaras Hindu University. He practiced as a pediatric and neonatal surgeon in Agra for over three decades and was associated with multiple hospitals in the city.
Colleagues described him as a senior figure in pediatric surgical care in Agra, particularly known for long-term clinical service to children and newborns.
He was known for handling complex pediatric surgical cases, including neonatal surgeries, and remained active in clinical practice even during prolonged periods of treatment.
Dr. Panjwani was first diagnosed with cancer in 2003, when he underwent surgery for genital cancer. The disease recurred in 2011, affecting the oral region, requiring further surgical treatment.
In 2012, he developed kidney failure and underwent a kidney transplant, with the donor being his wife, Dr. Sharmila Panjwani, a senior obstetrician and gynecologist.
He later suffered a heart attack in 2021 and underwent angioplasty. In 2025, he was diagnosed with tongue cancer and received radiotherapy treatment in Delhi. His condition deteriorated in the weeks following treatment, leading to hospital admission for supportive care.
Despite his own health challenges, Dr. Panjwani continued performing surgeries for several years. Reports and tributes highlight instances where he operated on critically ill newborns while managing his own medical conditions.
He was also involved in patient support initiatives, particularly for individuals undergoing cancer treatment and organ transplantation. Drawing from personal experience, he regularly interacted with patients and families to address treatment concerns and long-term care challenges.
According to posts shared by Dr. Panjwani on his Facebook account, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons. He stated that the award was conferred in connection with IAPSCON 2025 held in Puri.
In an earlier post dated November 2024, he reported being selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award by IAPS and noted his participation in the association’s Golden Jubilee conference at Rishikesh, where he delivered a lecture on laparoscopic management of hydatid cysts of the liver and lungs, chaired a session on hypospadias and advanced pediatric urology, and took part in a mentor–mentee interaction session.
In November 2021, Dr. Panjwani also stated that he received the R K Gandhi Gold Medal from the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, which was presented to him by Prof Ravi Kanojia.
Dr. Panjwani is survived by his wife, Dr. Sharmila Panjwani, and his children. His funeral took place in Agra following his death, with participation from family members, colleagues, and members of the medical fraternity.
