Guna, Madhya Pradesh: A disturbing incident at Guna District Hospital has sparked public outrage after a video allegedly showing a doctor intoxicated while on duty went viral on social media on February 9. The video shows the doctor struggling to remember where an elderly patient had been admitted, raising serious concerns about patient safety and medical accountability in government hospitals.
The doctor has been identified as Dr Ajay Singh Rathore, who was posted for emergency night duty on February 9, 2026. According to the patient’s family, Dr Rathore examined Lallu Singh, an 80-year-old asthma patient from Bajranggarh, and advised hospital admission. However, when relatives returned with medicines and asked about the patient’s location, the doctor reportedly failed to recall the ward where he had admitted him.
In the viral video, Dr Rathore appears disoriented and confused. At one point, he allegedly pointed to another person, incorrectly identifying him as the patient. Witnesses present at the hospital described his speech as slurred and his behavior as abnormal.
The patient’s family accused the doctor of negligence, stating that he did not issue a clear prescription and seemed unsure about the medicines being administered. A relative can be heard in the video expressing fear and frustration, saying that such behavior from a doctor puts patients’ lives at risk.
According to the family, when questioned about the patient’s admission details, the doctor tore up the prescription and behaved erratically. They also claimed that at one point, the doctor appeared to start treating an attendant instead of the actual patient.
Following the widespread circulation of the video and mounting public criticism, hospital authorities intervened. Chief Medical and Health Officer Rajkumar Rishishwar confirmed that Dr Rathore was immediately removed from duty and asked to leave the hospital premises.
The doctor was placed on seven days of administrative leave, and a show-cause notice was issued seeking an explanation for his conduct. Rishishwar stated that the doctor’s condition was not normal and that he appeared unfit to perform his duties at the time.
Hospital officials also arranged for another medical officer to attend to patients to ensure that medical services were not disrupted.
Hospital authorities have initiated an internal inquiry to examine the incident and determine further disciplinary action based on the doctor’s response to the notice. Officials stated that strict action would follow if the allegations are confirmed.
