Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, 30 August, 2025 — Gulfiza, a 23-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries on August 28, 2025, after a 17-day battle for life. Her in-laws allegedly forced her to consume acid on August 11, driven by relentless dowry demands for Rs 10 lakh and a car. Police have charged her husband, Parvez Ahmad, and six family members with murder charges pending the post-mortem report.
Gulfiza, brimming with hope, married Parvez, a farmer in Kalakheda village, just a year ago. But her joy was short-lived. Her father, Mohd Furkan, shared that Parvez and his family along with his parents, siblings, and others began harassing her soon after the wedding, demanding more dowry despite the gifts provided. Their greed for cash and a luxury car turned Gulfiza’s marriage into a relentless ordeal, culminating in an unthinkable act of cruelty.
On August 11, the harassment escalated to horror. Gulfiza’s in-laws allegedly forced her to drink acid at their home, leaving her in agony. Neighbors, hearing the chaos, alerted Furkan, who rushed her to a local hospital. She was later transferred to a facility in Moradabad, where doctors fought for 17 days to save her. Tragically, the acid’s devastating effects proved too much, and Gulfiza passed away, leaving her family heartbroken.
Following Furkan’s complaint, City Circle Officer Shakti Singh filed an FIR against seven accused—Parvez, Asim, Gulista, Monish, Saif, Dr Bhura, and Babbu under charges of domestic cruelty, attempted murder, and dowry violations. “They’re on the run, but we’ll catch them,” Singh vowed, adding that murder charges will be added once the autopsy report is received. The police are working tirelessly to deliver justice for Gulfiza.
This case chillingly mirrors another recent dowry horror reported by MedBound Times, where 28-year-old Nikki Bhati died from severe burns in Greater Noida on August 21, 2025. Her sister alleged Nikki was set ablaze by her in-laws over dowry, despite claims of a cylinder blast. Police have ruled out the cylinder blast theory after discovering an empty thinner bottle and a lighter at the scene.
Both cases have sparked public outrage, with calls for justice and stricter laws against dowry-related violence.
