The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 has come under scrutiny after allegations of a possible paper leak surfaced days after the examination conducted on May 3, 2026. The controversy erupted even as the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the provisional answer key on May 6, triggering anxiety among lakhs of medical aspirants across the country.
NEET UG 2026 is India’s largest undergraduate medical entrance examination, held for admissions to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, AYUSH, and allied medical courses. This year, nearly 22.79 lakh candidates reportedly appeared for the exam across India and abroad.
The NTA conducted the NEET UG 2026 examination on May 3, 2026, in a single shift from 2 pm to 5 pm at centres across 551 Indian cities and 14 international locations.
Soon after the exam concluded, social media platforms saw widespread discussions and allegations regarding a possible paper leak, with several Telegram channels and circulating “guess papers” drawing attention from investigators.
The National Testing Agency released the NEET UG 2026 provisional answer key on May 6, 2026, on the official website, allowing candidates to estimate their scores before the final result declaration.
Candidates were also informed that they would be allowed to challenge the provisional answer key by paying a non-refundable fee of Rs 200 per question. The agency said objections would be reviewed by subject experts before the final answer key is issued.
Students challenging the answer key must:
Log in using application credentials
Select disputed questions
Upload supporting documents in PDF format
Pay Rs 200 per challenged answer
Submit objections within the official window
The final NEET UG 2026 result will be prepared based on the revised final answer key after expert review.
The Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) has launched an investigation into alleged irregularities linked to NEET UG 2026.
Vishal Bansal, Additional Director General said the investigation began after Rajasthan Police received inputs about a handwritten PDF “guess paper” that had allegedly circulated among NEET aspirants through WhatsApp and other public platforms before the May 3 examination.
According to Bansal, the circulated document reportedly contained nearly 400 questions, out of which around 120 Biology and Chemistry questions were found to be similar to those asked in the actual NEET UG 2026 paper.
He also said the Rajasthan SOG has questioned multiple individuals from Sikar, Jaipur, Kota, Jhunjhunu, and Dehradun as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to reports, investigators are examining:
Circulated question banks
“Guess papers” and coaching test series
Telegram and WhatsApp groups
Videos linked to coaching centres
Financial transactions connected to suspects
Similarities between circulated material and the final paper
Authorities are reportedly investigating whether the material was merely predictive coaching content or evidence of a larger organised leak network.
Amid growing speculation, the NTA stated that the NEET UG 2026 examination was conducted under “full security protocol” at centres in India and abroad.
The agency said suspicious inputs received on May 7, 2026, were forwarded to central investigative agencies for verification. The NTA also stated that it is cooperating with investigators and sharing technical and exam-related data as part of the probe.
However, the agency has not officially confirmed any paper leak so far.
While the provisional answer key has already been released, students are still waiting for:
OMR response sheets
Recorded responses
Final answer key
NEET UG 2026 result
Counselling schedule
Reports suggest the results may be declared in the second or third week of June 2026, following previous examination timelines.
The delayed release of OMR sheets and the ongoing investigation have further intensified concern among aspirants preparing for medical admissions.
The controversy has also triggered rumours regarding a possible NEET UG 2026 re-exam. Searches related to “NEET paper leak 2026,” “re-NEET,” and “NEET irregularities” have surged online as students seek clarity on the future of the examination process.
Despite mounting speculation, no official announcement regarding a re-exam has been issued by the NTA or the Ministry of Education.
Medical aspirants and parents across the country are now demanding transparency and timely clarification from authorities. Many students fear uncertainty in the counselling and admission process if the controversy escalates further.
