Pt. BD Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHSR) in Rohtak, Haryana has expelled 23 MBBS students after finding evidence that they were involved in a medical exam fraud scheme in which MBBS answer sheets were tampered with to secure passing marks. The action was announced by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr. H.K. Aggarwal, on February 3, 2026.

The expelled students belonged to a private medical college affiliated with UHSR, and the university has cancelled all examinations for their MBBS courses. The disciplinary orders state that the students are barred from readmission to the university or any of its institutions.

What the Scam Involved

According to the university’s investigation, answer sheets from annual and supplementary MBBS exams were smuggled out of the university’s secrecy branch, tampered with, and then re-submitted so that students could obtain higher marks. The investigation revealed:

  • Some answer sheets were removed, rewritten or altered, and then resubmitted for grading.

  • In several cases, handwriting on the answer sheets did not match the students’ own handwriting on file.

  • Answer sheets were tampered with to erase earlier responses and include new answers before evaluation.

The university’s Controller of Examinations has been instructed to update records to nullify the results of the expelled students.

Ongoing Investigations and Broader Scam Details

This disciplinary action comes amid a broader probe into the MBBS exam scam at UHSR, which was first reported by The Tribune in January 2025. The scam has been under investigation for over a year and has led to several related actions:

  • FIRs (First Information Reports) were registered in February 2025 against 41 individuals, including 24 MBBS students and 17 university employees.

  • At least three university employees have been arrested in connection with the case, and additional personnel have been suspended or terminated.

  • The police inquiry has uncovered allegations that answer sheets were smuggled out, re-written at off-campus locations, and then swapped with original sheets for fraudulent evaluation.

  • Subsequent phases of the investigation have seen more staff members come under police scrutiny as part of the probe.

University authorities have also ordered a review of answer sheets from exams conducted over the past five years to identify further irregularities.

The university has stated that it will continue to investigate and take action against any individuals found involved in malpractice. Disciplinary measures have already affected not only students but also university employees, reflecting administrative efforts to safeguard the integrity of the MBBS examination process.
