Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Doctors Association has urged the state government and the Director of Medical Education to complete the long-pending surrender and absorption process before initiating fresh recruitment of assistant professors in government medical colleges.
The association stated that bypassing this administrative step could adversely affect in-service doctors who are eligible for faculty positions. It warned that proceeding with new recruitment without first accommodating existing government doctors would result in loss of seniority, stalled promotions and career uncertainty.
According to the Telangana Government Doctors Association, several eligible postgraduate doctors currently serving under the Directorate of Health and the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad are waiting for surrender and absorption into teaching posts.
These doctors have completed their postgraduate qualifications and are entitled to transition into faculty roles within government medical colleges. The association stressed that the surrender process ensures their service continuity, seniority protection and rightful career progression.
If fresh assistant professors are recruited before completing this process, in-service doctors may be placed at a disadvantage despite years of government service.
The surrender process is an administrative mechanism that allows doctors to formally transition from one government role to another while preserving service benefits. It protects seniority, promotion eligibility and institutional hierarchy.
The association warned that ignoring this step could create disparities between newly recruited faculty and experienced in-service doctors. Such a move may weaken morale and disrupt the structured growth pathway within the state’s medical education system.
TGGDA emphasized that fairness in administrative procedures is essential for maintaining trust among government doctors.
The demand comes at a time when Telangana’s government medical colleges continue to navigate staffing challenges. The association believes that experienced in-service doctors are critical to maintaining academic standards, mentoring students and ensuring continuity in patient care.
Appointing new faculty without resolving the status of eligible in-service doctors may lead to underutilization of skilled manpower and administrative imbalance.
The Telangana Government Doctors Association has appealed to the Health Department and the Director of Medical Education to prioritise the surrender and absorption process before announcing or proceeding with fresh recruitment of assistant professors.
The association maintains that completing this step first will safeguard seniority rights, prevent professional injustice and strengthen the state’s public medical education system.
