In a deeply disturbing incident from Kerala's Thrissur district, a 25‑year‑old man named Bhavin walked into the Puthukkad police station at around 12:30 a.m. carrying what he said were the skeletal remains of his newborn sons. He confessed that both he and his 22‑year‑old live‑in partner, Anisha, had secretly buried the babies soon after birth, first in 2021 and again in 2024.
Bhavin and Anisha, who have been in a relationship since 2020 after meeting on Facebook, stated the first delivery occurred in 2021 in their bathroom. Anisha gave birth alone, claiming the baby died as the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. Following the death, they buried the body on her property. Bhavin retained the bones eight months later “as a token of their relationship,” intending to perform proper last rites.
The second incident took place in 2024. Anisha reportedly delivered a second child in the room, but Bhavin then covered the newborn's mouth to silence its cries—preventing neighbors from hearing, resulting in death. They buried the body behind Bhavin’s residence in Amballur. A few days ago, Bhavin surrendered the remains of both infants to police.
A forensic surgeon examined the remains and confirmed they belonged to human infants. Authorities have since arrested both Bhavin and Anisha and registered two separate FIRs in connection with the births and burials.
Preliminary investigations have raised serious questions over whether the deaths were natural or homicides. The 2021 case involved a claimed stillbirth due to umbilical complications, but the 2024 death raises doubts, with allegations of the infant being intentionally silenced. Forensic examinations and autopsies are ongoing to determine the exact causes of death.
Police statement: the circumstances are “highly suspicious,” and further legal proceedings will depend on forensic findings. The couple faces potential charges including infanticide, concealment of birth, and unlawful disposal of human remains.
This case has prompted widespread alarm in Kerala, bringing attention to the serious legal and social issues surrounding unreported births, reproductive health, and infanticide, especially in cases of live‑in relationships. The police investigation continues to gather medical reports, witness statements, and forensic evidence to establish the full truth.
