She earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the same university in 2018.

In this short Q&A with MedBound Times, Dr. Bhandari discusses her journey from Oral Pathology to Healthcare Leadership.

Q

Can you share a bit about your educational background and what inspired you to pursue a career in the medical field?

A

I developed a passion for medicine back in 10th grade, where I dreamt of becoming a doctor. I pursued a BDS degree and later an MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology. My commitment to healthcare deepened when I saw the impact that a dedicated medical professional could make in people’s lives.

Q

What was it like to join the workforce after completing your education, and where did you start?

A

My first professional experience was as a junior resident at a government hospital, where I gained hands-on clinical experience and learned to work under high-pressure conditions. The clinical exposure and challenges I faced during this time strengthened my skills and solidified my commitment to the healthcare sector.

Q

How did your career evolve after your initial work as a junior resident?

A

I transitioned into various careers, including working as a Medical Officer in the insurance sector, where I currently lead a team in handling claims, audits, and training.

Q

You’ve also been involved in scientific writing and editing. What interests you about this area?

A

I’ve always enjoyed sharing knowledge, and scientific writing allows me to do just that. I’m also an Associate Editor at DentMed Publications, where I work on research articles, reports, and presentations.

Q

As someone who has a passion for education, what advice would you give to students considering a career in oral pathology?

A

Oral pathology is a fascinating field with immense potential for research and clinical application. For students, I’d suggest exploring career options beyond traditional paths. I personally guide my students on diverse opportunities, as I believe that a well-rounded perspective is essential for growth.

Q

What future goals do you have for your career?

A

My primary goal is to continue contributing meaningfully to healthcare. I also want to help students explore career options and bridge healthcare disparities across regions.
