Q

What do you do?

A

I am currently working as a resident dental surgeon at The Noor Multi-Speciality Dental Clinic, Thrikaripur, Kasaragod, Kerala.

Q

What prompted you to choose this profession?

A

My passion for medical services and my desire to serve society.

Q

What is the best part about being a dental student/professional?

A

In most cases, we get to witness patient satisfaction and happy faces with beautiful smiles immediately after treatment.

Q

How do you like spending your free time?

A

I love spending time with my family, my husband, and my two naughty little champs.

Q

Which is your favorite subject in dentistry and why?

A

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). I am very interested in minor surgeries.

Q

Which is your least favorite subject in dentistry?

A

Dental Materials and Community Dentistry/Public Health Dentistry.

Q

What are some studying tips you use to retain and understand things better?

A

I focused on remembering the clinical features and treatment methods rather than just memorizing each case. Making short notes also helped me a lot.

Q

Which dental procedure(s) you enjoy/anticipate doing the most?

A

Root canal treatments and extractions.

Q

What do you enjoy more, doing an RCT or extracting teeth?

A

Every case is different, so I enjoy each and every one of them.

Q

What are some challenges you face in your professional field?

A

Gender bias—some patients prefer treatment only from male dentists, as they lack confidence in female dentists and tend to underestimate us. It’s disheartening. Additionally, underpayment is another serious challenge.

Q

How would your friends describe you?

A

As the best secret keeper.

Q

What has been the best/most memorable moment in your dental school so far?

A

Graduation day—seeing my parents' faces filled with happy and proud tears as I received my certificate.

Q

Has dentistry impacted your food choices? Like, do you consume less sugary and sticky food items?

A

Yes, to some extent. I’m not interested in sticky foods anymore, and if I do have them, I brush my teeth immediately.

Q

As a dental health professional, what is your dental health care regime?

A

Regular oral check-ups every six months can help ensure that you and your family remain cavity-free. Preventive care keeps smiles from fading.

Q

If given a choice, what alternate career would you have opted for?

A

Pediatrician

Q

Where would you like to work in the future?

A

In the Gulf countries. I’m curious to learn about the latest methodologies being implemented in dentistry abroad.

Q

What is your dream travel destination?

A

Mecca, Saudi Arabia—to perform Hajj and Umrah.

Q

Tell us a secret talent(s) that the world does not know about you?

A

I can easily tell when someone is lying, but I remain calm and pretend to believe them.

Q

What are you not very good at?

A

I’m not good at pretending, lying, or flattery.

Q

A quote that resonates deeply with you?

A

Hardwork pays off.

Q

Any other point(s)/thought(s) you would like us to know about you? Please feel free to share with us.

A

I’ve encountered patients who cannot afford the treatment they need. In such situations, I feel helpless. I hope to do something more for such patients in the future.
