Q

What do you do?

A

I'm an MBBS intern doctor, currently transitioning from being a theoretical medical student to a professional practicing doctor. I'm eager to absorb and learn as much as possible to facilitate my personal and professional growth.

Q

What’s the best part of your profession? What made you choose this profession?

A

In my opinion, the best part about my profession is the ability to make a difference by making decisions that impact people's lives. It's truly remarkable to witness the raw and vulnerable human spirit. As doctors, we have a perpetual effect on our patients' lives as we care for them during their times of illness. How many people in this world can be as selfless as to set aside their own sufferings and focus on others' well-being? I chose medicine because of my compassion and because, at an early age, I couldn't figure out what to do with that compassion. I simply knew that I had to dedicate my life to something that involved being aware of others' sufferings and helping them through it. I understand the profound impact a lack of sympathy and sensitivity can have on a person, and I don't want others to experience the same.

Q

Do you like reading? What was the last thing you read?

A

Yes, I'm an avid reader with a particular interest in non-fiction, psychological, and thriller genres, to be specific. Lately, I've been reading more self-reflective books. My last read was a thought-provoking book titled "The Courage to Be Disliked" by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga.

I envision myself working in an efficient workplace where my work and contribution are valued, and I'm taken for my worth as a human being,

Q

What is your favorite dish?

A

I'm not a big enthusiast when it comes to food; I can eat anything and everything as long as it is edible. But yes, when asked about my favorite dish, I'm mostly inclined towards seafood - fish and prawns, mostly. I'm also very fond of the South Indian delicacy, the Dosa.

Q

How would your friends describe you?

A

My friends would describe me as a selectively extroverted person who prefers spending more time in solitude for self-reflection and studying, rather than engaging in outdoor activities. However, when I am outdoors, I am an ardent friend and a patient listener.

Q

Who would you like to travel with?

A

Family, Friend(s), Alone

Q

Mention your least favorite subjects.

A

Unpopular opinion, but I just cannot find the will or interest to pick up biochemistry and microbiology for studying or exploration.

As a doctor, one change I aspire to bring about in the world is addressing the glaring inequalities in access to medical care. It pains me to see individuals and communities disadvantaged by limited resources, financial barriers, and systemic disparities. (Farooqui Mehvish Fatema)

Q

What is your favorite subject?

A

As of now, I cannot restrict my liking to a particular subject, but genomics, oncology, dermatology, and psychiatry entice me more than the others.

Q

What’s something you wish to change about the world?

A

As a doctor, one change I aspire to bring about in the world is addressing the glaring inequalities in access to medical care. It pains me to see individuals and communities disadvantaged by limited resources, financial barriers, and systemic disparities. I envision a world where healthcare is truly universal and accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic status or geographic location. I would like to be an active advocate for implementing changes to support medical students facing financial difficulties while struggling through med school. Furthermore, I strongly believe that rather than solely focusing on treating diseases after they occur, it is crucial to prioritize preventive measures that promote overall well-being and reduce the burden of illness. Together, we can create a world where the emphasis is on maintaining good health, rather than solely fighting illness.

I enjoy pushing myself to see how far I can go and how much I can endure before outlining my boundaries.

Q

If your journey was/were a movie, what would it be called?

A

Ah, good question. It would most probably be called "Resilient Heart: An Unyielding Compassion.

Q

What are you passionate about?

A

I'm passionate about exploring ideas and turning them from my imaginative phase into reality. I enjoy pushing myself to see how far I can go and how much I can endure before outlining my boundaries. I have a deep passion for painting and journaling. These two activities serve as outlets for me to escape the stress and anxiety of the world.

Q

Best/memorable moment?

A

Life has been pretty gracious to me until now, so I cannot specify the best moments. However, one memorable moment would be when I took the Hippocratic Oath and donned my lab coat as a doctor, stepping out to evaluate my first patient.

Q

What do you love to do in your leisure time?

A

Like I mentioned above, I enjoy painting and indulging myself in journaling and self-reflection as forms of leisure activities.

Q

What do you hate the most?

A

I believe that hate is a very strong emotion and should be reserved for extreme situations. I don't hate anything or anybody per se, but I do dislike many things. One of them is the favoritism and biased nature of teaching authorities towards certain students when it comes to providing education and knowledge. I also have a strong distaste for narcissistic individuals who constantly put others down and derive satisfaction from it.

Q

If given a choice, what alternate career would you have opted for?

A

This question always gives me second thoughts. I haven't really thought about it, but if given a choice for an alternate career, I would definitely opt for law and human sociology.

Q

What is your dream travel destination?

A

Not just one, no. I haven't restricted my travel plans to just one dream destination. But Edinburgh would be my first priority, followed by Seattle, Washington.

Q

Where and what kind of workplace would you like to work in future?

A

I envision myself working in an efficient workplace where my work and contribution are valued, and I'm taken for my worth as a human being, in addition to being a doctor. Also, a place where I can grow and learn personally and professionally.

Q

Finally, a quote you relate to:

A

Out of suffering, have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars. - Khalil Gibran.
