23-Year-Old Brain-Dead Lecturer's Organs Harvested: Five Lives Saved

A 23-year-old Gloria Rodrigues, a lecturer of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru lecturer's tragic death has given new life to five individuals, thanks to her organ donation. The lecturer, who was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru, Karnataka, passed away due to an anaphylaxis reaction.

Her organs were harvested at the hospital and donated to five people in need of transplants. The recipients include patients at various hospitals in Mangaluru and Bengaluru. This selfless act has brought hope and a second chance at life to the families of the recipients.

Organ Donation Details:

• Liver: Donated to a patient at a hospital in Bengaluru

• Kidneys: Donated to two patients, one each at hospitals in Mangaluru and Bengaluru

• Corneas: Donated to a patient at a hospital in Mangaluru

• Skin: Donated to help burn victims

Subsequently, the medical team at FMMCH, led by Administrator Fr Jeevan George Sequeira and Assistant Administrator, compassionately guided Gloria's family through this difficult time. Despite relentless medical efforts, Gloria's condition remained gravely critical. Following an extensive series of diagnostic tests, the unfortunate outcome of brain death was conclusively established.

The lecturer's family made the courageous decision to donate her organs, giving others a chance at life despite their own grief. Organ donation has been a lifeline for many in Karnataka, with several instances of brain-dead patients' organs being harvested to save others. These selfless acts demonstrating the power of compassion and generosity, inspiring others to consider organ donation.
