In a shocking incident, an Ahmedabad-based doctor was reportedly chased by five unknown men who unreasonably pelted stones at him and his car. The incident took place in Meghaninagar, near Ahmedabad, a couple of days ago.

37-year-old Dr. Dharmendra Aahir is a resident of Parnakunj society in Meghaninagar. He has a hospital in Moraiya village, near Sanand, and travels there daily. He informed the police that on the fateful day, he was driving his car from Paldi Bhattha to Chandranagar as usual. Things took a worse turn when he noticed five unknown people on scooters coming out of nowhere and chasing him. Thereafter, they started screaming at him and banging on his car.

Dr. Aahir got scared but maintained his composure. He kept driving on the riverfront. The miscreants followed him and kept throwing stones at his car. The windows and the boot of the car were damaged subsequently.

Dr. Aahir added that he tried to chase them, but they fled away. Thereafter, he called the police control room and informed them about the incident. A complaint was then filed against the unknown people.

The police said that they are yet to identify the miscreants, and the search is in full swing to nab the offenders. A recent report released by the World Health Organization  (WHO) pointed out that India had the maximum number of road injury deaths in 2021. Such incidents of stone-pelting also contribute to road accidents and can unfortunately lead to fatalities too.

Experts say that strong preventive measures are needed, such as enforcing the laws and implementing them strictly, so that such incidents can be avoided in the future. The police have also asked the citizens to be vigilant and approach them without any fear to report such road rage incidents.

Similar incidents were reported last month on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway, near Samarkha, where some unknown people pelted stones on fast-moving vehicles during the night. Heavy stones were pelted from the frontal side, and the glasses of a few vehicles were shattered. After that, the police increased patrolling on the expressway.
