ZIRO: Landmark Triple Nerve Block Surgery Performed at GTGH
Gyati Takka General Hospital (GTGH) in Ziro achieved a medical milestone with its first-ever ultrasound-guided triple nerve block surgery. The procedure, carried out successfully on a patient’s lower limb, utilized advanced ultrasound technology to administer anesthesia to the femoral, saphenous, and sciatic nerves.
The surgical team was led by Dr. Koj Jarbo, the Medical Superintendent of GTGH and a clinical anesthetist, assisted by Dr. M. Muri and Dr. Subu Nobing. Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Hage Taker supervised the procedure, supported by a team of skilled nursing staff.
Dr. Jarbo highlighted the numerous advantages of ultrasound-guided anesthesia over traditional methods such as general or spinal anesthesia. He stated, “This technique offers unmatched precision and safety, virtually eliminating the chances of errors and associated risks. It is also far more convenient for both patients and medical professionals compared to conventional blind procedures.”

Dr. Jarbo further emphasized the hospital’s commitment to introducing more advanced medical procedures. “We plan to make such high-end surgeries a regular feature at GTGH. Complex cases that previously required referrals to larger hospitals like TRIHMS can now be managed here, leveraging the expertise of our team and specialists from outside the region. Our ultimate goal is to provide comprehensive care within GTGH, minimizing the need for patients to travel to other facilities,” he added.
Reflecting on the successful surgery, Dr. Hage Taker shared, “In my career spanning over 20 years, this was one of the most complex surgeries I have been involved in. Thanks to the cutting-edge technology and seamless collaboration among the medical team, the procedure was completed without any complications.” He also noted that this was his first major surgery of the year, expressing satisfaction with the outcome.
