A popular restaurant’s new creation garnered the attention of netizens. It introduced a cocktail that looks like froth and is named after the most polluted Varthur Lake in southeast Bangalore.

An X (formerly Twitter) user, named Arnav Gupta shared a picture of the cocktail that was created by Bangalore Oota company that resembles the froth. One user commented that can pass as Bellandur Lake snowfall as well. "Does Bangalore Oota company have liquor license now?? Or this Oota Whitefield?" said another.

The Bangalore Oota company’s cocktail Varthur Overflow contains tequila, vetiver vodka, orange brandy, pineapple juice, fresh fruits, salt air, and ripe jackfruit.

Varthur Lake is the second largest lake in the city, and also one of the most polluted lakes in Bangalore. The lake has been struggling with severe pollution concerns. The sewage water from Bangalore enters into Bellandur Lake, which is located upstream, and from Bellandur Lake, the sewage water enters into Varthur Lake, degrading its ecosystem.

In recent years, the lake has also been one of the water bodies that faced foaming numerous times. (Representational image: Unsplash)

In recent years, the lake has also been one of the water bodies that faced foaming numerous times. The worsening situation of the lake ecosystem raises concerns about the degradation of the environment and public health.

An operation was conducted in October 2023 to clear Varthur Lake. Over 25,000 fish died due to the water pollution in the lake, underscoring the impacts of water pollution. The efforts to rejuvenate the lake were in progress. Recently, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) authorized the rainwater inflow into the Varthur lake.
