A doctor from Bengaluru recently expressed her discontent on X (previously Twitter) after claiming to have discovered "oily frothy liquid" in the ice cream she had ordered from an online store Zepto.
The woman stated that Zepto had not kept the freezer powered on and questioned what ice cream maker Amul was putting on the product in a post on social media.
"I wonder what ingredients Amul is using these days in their ice creams. I opened my Amul Vanilla Gold order that I had placed with @ZeptoNow right away. There's an oily, foamy liquid that's separated. icky things. Additionally, this Zepto store is definitely not keeping its freezer powered on," the user commented on the platform.
The woman received a reply from the e-commerce platform, expressing their regret for the inconvenience, and asked her to send them a message using her registered contact information.
When Zepto responded, the woman said she had wasted five minutes talking to a customer service representative and that she thought a food inspector should visit their stores to investigate the matter.
Many users commented on the woman's initial post, which was critical of Zepto's ice cream delivery quality. Many of them shared their personal Zepto ordering experiences.
"I experienced food poisoning in Mumbai the previous three times I purchased dairy from Zepto—three times in a row! Despite how quick and efficient their service is, I've stopped getting fresh food from them since I can't take the chance.
"Zepto has obviously grown too quickly and lacks cold storage space," a user commented.
"I had the exact same experience using Zepto to order Amul Gold Vanilla Ice Cream. Remarkably, the standard Amul ice cream worked out just great, as stated by another user.
This is not the first time in recent memory that a Zepto customer has experienced disappointment following an order.
When a Delhi man received his order of 10 kg of flour from the online store, he discovered that it had just eight days left until it expired. He was concerned about how he would use up all the wheat in such a short amount of time.
