A Reddit user has claimed that OpenAI’s ChatGPT helped resolve a 5-year-old jaw issue in just under a minute. The story has since gone viral, especially after being highlighted by LinkedIn co-founder and AI advocate Reid Hoffman.
The user explained that they had been dealing with a chronic clicking sound in their jaw, believed to stem from an old boxing injury. Despite seeing multiple doctors, undergoing two MRIs, and visiting an ENT and a maxillofacial expert, no conclusive solution was found.
Turning to ChatGPT as a last resort, the user asked for insight. ChatGPT suggested the issue could be a slightly displaced disc in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and recommended a jaw realignment exercise involving tongue positioning and symmetrical movement.
A jaw realignment exercise involving tongue positioning and symmetrical movement can be helpful for a slightly displaced disc in the temporomandibular joint. This exercise aims to improve the joint's function by encouraging the disc to return to its proper position and reducing muscle tension.
Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn co-founder, shared the viral post on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a strong example of AI’s potential in personal health support. Responding to a user who said “Doctors will hate ChatGPT,” Hoffman remarked that AI could actually assist healthcare professionals in diagnosis and efficiency.
Experts, however, caution against replacing doctors with AI tools. They claim while platforms like ChatGPT can support preliminary analysis or health awareness, they shouldn't substitute for professional diagnosis. That said, this case is a clear reminder of how AI is transforming everyday healthcare experiences.
