In a bizarre instance of academic fraud, a case has been filed against five individuals for allegedly conning a Faridabad resident out of ₹15 lakh on the promise of procuring an MBBS seat in ESIC Medical College, Faridabad.

The victim, Sharma, a Sector-55 resident, applied for his daughter after the NEET 2024 results. However, he fell into a well-orchestrated trap set by the accused: Manoj Sharma, his wife Monika, Shubham Tiwari, Priyanka, and Krishna.

How the Admission Scandal Unfolded

According to a report, the fraud started immediately after the announcement of the NEET result in June 2024. The victim’s daughter was befriended by her classmate Shubham Tiwari, who introduced her to Manoj and Monika Sharma.

Producing their so-called "official" admissions list for 2024–25, they claimed close links with high-ranking officials and assured the family that they could obtain a seat under the state quota in MBBS at ESIC Medical College. For greater authenticity, they also produced forged documents in which the girl was listed at position 50.

False Promises and Forged Documents

The scammers took pains to appear authentic. They prepared a duplicate identity card with the logo of ESIC Medical College and the student’s name and roll number printed on it. They also provided a fake admission timetable, indicating that document verification would take place on October 7, 2024, and the academic session would start on January 17, 2025, instead of the actual date, December 26, 2024.

But when the official list of admitted students was released and her name was not there, the truth came out.

Complaint Lodged After Refusal to Refund

Upon confronting the accused, Sharma was met with refusal and evasion. Realizing he had been defrauded, he lodged a formal complaint at the Sector-58 police station.

Police spokesperson Yashpal Singh confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against all five accused, and the investigation is in progress.

A Warning for Hopeful Students and Parents

The case points to the increasing menace of admission scams targeting anxious students and their parents. Officials recommend verifying all admissions directly through authorized college websites and warn against trusting individual friends or unauthorized agents who guarantee seats.
