In a shocking incident from France, 12 people have been arrested for allegedly stabbing over 145 people with syringes during a street music festival.
Chaos Erupts at France’s Music Festival
France recently hosted its annual street music festival, Fête de la Musique. Millions joined the celebration, and police noted that there were three to four times more people in Paris than usual.
Things were going well until chaos broke out, with reports of people being stabbed with needles in their arms, legs, and buttocks. So far, over 145 people have been affected across the country, including 13 in Paris, according to the French Interior Ministry.
Influencer Warning Went Unnoticed
TikTok influencer Abrege Soeur had already warned people about a possible attack on June 21, claiming that men were planning to target women at the event.
Soeur, who calls herself a feminist, even suggested a safety code for alerting others in case of danger.
She said these plans were being shared on social media, though there was no clear information about the source. But her warning wasn’t taken seriously—Paris’s police chief reportedly dismissed the posts as “completely idiotic.”
Victims Across Cities, 12 Arrested
According to prosecutors, investigations began after three individuals—including a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy—reported being pricked and feeling unwell. These incidents were from different parts of the country.
So far, 12 suspects have been arrested. A police official stated that four of them had targeted around 50 people in the southwestern city of Angoulême.
The northeastern city of Metz also reported the arrest of two men. One was caught with a syringe, while another was identified by a woman who had been stabbed. The alleged victims are believed to be under 18, and one suspect, around 20, has a history of violence.
Mayor François Grosdidier posted on Instagram:
“The first syringe attack in Metz was reported at about 9:15 pm local time,” he wrote. “The victims included 15 young women aged 14 to 20. The suspected syringe attacker had been arrested and handed over to the National Police.”
Other cases were reported in cities like Tours, Evreux, and Rouen. In Tours alone, 13 women reported being pricked.
Officials have not confirmed whether these were cases of needle spiking involving date-rape drugs like Rohypnol or GHB.
According to The Guardian, the ministry stated: “Some victims were taken to hospital for toxicological tests.”
Not the First Time
This isn’t the first time such incidents have occurred during this summer festival. In 2022, there were also reports of syringe attacks, prompting French authorities to issue safety alerts. That year, over 370 people were arrested during the festival, and 14 were seriously injured, including a 17-year-old boy who was hospitalized with stab wounds.
Why It Matters
Such incidents raise serious concerns about public safety, especially for women, at crowded festivals and events.
