Hospital Staff Dump Mentally Ill Patients, 1 Dies, 1 Goes Missing

A disturbing incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, where hospital staff allegedly abandoned two mentally ill patients, leaving them to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, one of the patients was found dead, while the other remains missing.

According to reports, the two patients, both in their mid-30s, were admitted to the hospital's psychiatric ward. However, hospital staff allegedly dumped them at a bus stand, claiming they were cured. The families of the patients have alleged that the hospital staff did not provide them with any information about the patients' discharge.

An unnatural death case was registered with the police station on November 14 while police circulated the details of the unknown person to his identity but the deceased was yet to be identified till date.

FIR filed against seven individuals, including Kumar Ashutosh, Hemant Rajan, and five others, on Thursday. The FIR was registered based on a statement by Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar Rai, under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The hospital authority said that the two patients were admitted six to seven days ago and both were making the hospital premises dirty. The hospital authorities asked us to leave them in remote areas

The families of the patients are demanding justice, and an investigation has been launched into the incident. The police have registered a case against the hospital staff and are investigating the matter, with many calling for stricter action against the hospital staff responsible. The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the incident and has assured that action will be taken against those found guilty. The incident is a wake-up call for the need to improve the healthcare system in India, particularly when it comes to the treatment of mentally ill patients. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, seeking a detailed report on the incident.
