Madhya Pradesh at the Forefront of India's Fight Against HIV/AIDS

On December 1, 2024, Madhya Pradesh will host the nation’s central observance of World AIDS Day at the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Auditorium in Indore. The event will be inaugurated by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, with Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, attending as the Guest of Honour. This year’s event emphasizes India’s unwavering commitment to combating HIV/AIDS and aligning with global goals.

Empathy, awareness, and action are the pillars of our fight against HIV/AIDS

Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda

The occasion coincides with the theme of the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS): “Take the Rights Path.” The focus is on advocating for the rights of people living with HIV, ensuring access to treatment, and eliminating discrimination. Since 1992, the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has been organizing these observances annually, fostering partnerships to achieve the global target of ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.

Celebrating Progress: NACO’s Achievements and New Launches

This year’s event in Indore promises to be both impactful and inspiring, showcasing India’s advancements in tackling HIV/AIDS. A range of activities has been planned, including an innovative exhibition that highlights NACO’s programmatic components, digital tools, and community engagement strategies. The exhibition will also feature handcrafted items made by HIV/AIDS beneficiaries, symbolizing their empowerment and resilience.

Adding a personal touch to the program, beneficiaries will share their transformative journeys, showcasing how NACO’s initiatives have positively impacted their lives.

Several key resources and publications will also be unveiled during the event, including:

  1. SANKALAK 6th Edition: An annual report documenting India’s fight against HIV/AIDS.
