A 37-year-old woman named Serina gave birth to a baby girl on a public bus in Kerala on Wednesday, right outside Amala Hospital in Thrissur. The unexpected delivery occurred when Serina, who was traveling with her husband on a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus from Thrissur to Kozhikode, went into labor.

As Serina's labor pains intensified, it became clear that she was in too much pain to be moved into the hospital. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the bus driver directed the bus straight to Thrissur's Amala Hospital. Upon arrival, the medical staff realized that Serina was in an advanced stage of labor and decided to perform the delivery inside the bus.

Doctors and nurses quickly boarded the bus and successfully delivered the baby girl. Both mother and child were safely attended to during the delivery, which took place right outside the hospital premises. After the birth, the newborn was immediately transferred to the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for observation, while Serina remained under medical supervision.

The incident attracted attention from both hospital staff and the public. Passengers on the bus were asked to depart to allow the medical team to focus on the emergency delivery. Visuals shared on social media showed the bus parked outside the hospital, with medical personnel rushing to assist the new mother and her baby.

Dr. Yasir Sulaiman of Amala Hospital explained the situation stating, "The initiation of labor pain had already begun. It was not possible for us to move her to the emergency room at that point. The child had to be removed, and the umbilical cord had to be cut there. We made sure the mother and child were secure. Both are doing well right now. It was a distinct day and a new thing for us."

According to a spokesperson from Amala Hospital, the delivery was almost complete by the time the bus reached the hospital. "She was brought to the hospital by the KSRTC bus. By the time the bus reached the hospital, the delivery was almost complete. The doctors and nurses helped to take the child out," the spokesperson said.

While traveling from Angamaly to Thottilpalam, Serina, a resident of Manro House in Thirunavaya, started experiencing labor pains close to the Peramangalam Police Station. Around 12:30 in the afternoon, the bus arrived at the hospital, just in time for the medical staff to help with the last stages of delivery.

Serina is the mother of five children, and both she and her newborn are reported to be in stable condition. An official from the Peramangalam Police Station confirmed that once they received information about the incident, they visited the scene. "The condition of both the mother and child is satisfactory. We shifted the child to the NICU. Serina is under observation," the official stated.

Serina's husband, Lijesh, was present throughout the encounter and arrived at the hospital along with the bus. The quick thinking and immediate action of the KSRTC bus staff and the medical team at Amala Hospital ensured a safe delivery for Serina and her baby girl.
