The King George’s Medical University (KGMU) delays their plan to launch the bedtime medicine delivery, prolonging the patients' wait for availing the facility. The sophisticated facility, designed for the convenience of the patients, was first announced in the month of November by the hospital. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, the authorities have delayed the pristine service.

The bedside medicine delivery facility was announced under the Hospital Revolving Fund of KGMU, under which the medicines prescribed by doctors will be delivered directly to the patient, reducing the burden of the patients as well as attendants. The plan involved bedside delivery of frequently used medicines from the infirmary of the hospital's pharmacy, relieving the burden of procuring them. However, as it stands now, patients will have to wait at least another month to be able to avail this facility.

Currently, this novel amenity is being implemented in Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), and a similar system was announced to be developed at KGMU.

According to KGMU spokesperson, Dr. KK Singh, the pilot programme of the project is stalled as the terms of the tenders for many of the items included under the Hospital Revolving Fund are close to completion. The tender for most of the medications are going to end in the month of March and the new tenders for the same are expected to be called for from the month of April. Hence, till then, the bedside delivery system of medicines will not come into existence. Until the whole list of medicines is finalized by the hospital authorities, it is impossible to go ahead with the plan.

The bedside medicine delivery system is one of the best facilities that could be implemented to make patient care convenient to the public. The direct delivery of the prescribed medications to the individual eliminates any need for attendants of patients to be concerned about procuring the same.

Among the 5000 articles featuring in the Hospital Revolving Fund of KGMU, which includes medications as well as surgical tools, tenders for around 2000 items have been finalized. Moreover, the tenders for the remaining items will be initiated in the month of April.
