Lucknow: The objective of the state government's Mass Drug Administration (MDA) for filariasis eradication work was to deliver medication to 1.10 crore people, or 90% of the targeted population. In addition, 93% of those who first refused the medication at last consented to take it.
The most important component of India's LF elimination strategy is the MDA campaign, , which is carried out by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare's National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC).
Affected people and their families may experience long-term challenges as well as physical impairments like hydrocele (scrotal swelling) and lymphoedema (limb swelling).
According to Dr. AK Chaudhary, the state program officer for filaria, the campaign took place from February 10 to February 25 in 45 blocks spread throughout 14 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In order to reach those who initially declined or were unavailable to participate in the first campaign, a follow-up round was conducted in a few areas.
Officials reported that 98.95 lakh individuals were given the medication. Every district recorded an intake rate of more than 80%, with the exception of Jaunpur. The areas with greatest coverage were Barabanki, Bareilly, Jalaun, and Lucknow.
92.7% of the 1.58 lakh people who first resisted the medication went on to take it, implying that attempts were taken to handle refusal situations, according to Dr. Chaudhary.
