Mangaluru City Police Arrests Five People for Drug-Related Offences

The Anti-Drug team of Mangaluru City police have arrested five people in various cases emphasizing their continuous actions to fight drug peddling in the area.

Anupam Agarwal, the city police commissioner, underscores their efforts to restrain drug peddling activities in the region. The city police commissioner said that in the first case, two men were arrested on March 14, Ashraf alias Ponga Ashraf (30) and Mohammad Alfaz (26) in Vamanjoor, Tiruvail village. They were captured with 115 grams of ganja and a mobile phone, total worth Rs. 10,300.  Asraf had been escaping from arrest for six months. Konaje police station issued a warrant for his arrest.

Farooq was caught when he was trying to sell ganja at the Bola Lava Kusha Kambala maidan on Sunday. The police confiscated 998 grams of ganja and a  two-wheeler. The total worth of the confiscated property is Rs. 52,800.

A team headed by PSI Puneeth Gaonkar arrested Ummar Farooq alias Mangal Farooq alias Kunhimonu (68) in another incident. Farooq was caught when he was trying to sell ganja at the Bola Lava Kusha Kambala maidan on Sunday. The police confiscated 998 grams of ganja and a two-wheeler. The total worth of the confiscated property is Rs. 52,800.

In another incident, Mohammad Nizam alias Nizza was apprehended near the railway over the bridge in Padil, where he was found selling ganja illicitly. The Kankanady town police seized 254 grams of ganja and a mobile phone from him, worth Rs. 9,900. Mohammad had been issued a warrant earlier, for not being present in court for a year, and Rajesh (24) from Ullal was also captured for failing to present before the court for seven years. He is facing charges under various provisions of the IPC and the Arms Act.

Besides, Mangaluru City police also held 56 suspects for drug consumption of which 26 were corroborated as consumers after the medical tests in a month. These measures were part of the which is led by Mangaluru south sub division anti-drug team under ACP Dhanya Nayak.
