Cybercrimes have been on the rise, and they will continue to do so as newer technological advancements take place.
Usually, the accused takes executes a well-organized plan and takes advantage of the naive victim. The victim usually falls prey to such acts and ends up making a mistake.
However, in this case, the victim didn't necessarily make a mistake in the first place. A 36-year-old doctor received a WhatsApp call around 2:30 pm on April 28. When he picked up the call, he a woman stripping her clothes.
The doctor immediately hung up the call, however, the fraudster was successful in taking the screenshots. She demanded money and threatened to circulate the photos on social media if her demand was not complied.
The doctor got scared and had to pay ₹21000 to the fraudster. He then approached the police. Police have booked the accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 420 (cheating) and 385 (extortion).
