Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev who is a spiritual leader and founder of the Isha Foundation,  has undergone emergency brain surgery at Apollo Hospital in Delhi. For the last four weeks, Sadhguru has been suffering from severe headaches. Despite the severity of the pain, he continued with his normal daily schedule and social activities, and on March 8, 2024, he even conducted the Maha Shivaratri function.

The headache deteriorated by March 15, following which he telephonically consulted Senior Consultant Neurologist, Dr. Vinit Suri, who works at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi, at about 3:45 p.m. Dr. Suri immediately suspected a subdural hemostasis and suggested an urgent MRI.

At 4:30 p.m. the same day, Sadhguru underwent an MRI of the brain at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, and it revealed massive bleeding in the skull.

There was confirmation of chronic bleeding of 3–4 weeks duration with fresh bleeding of 24-48 hours duration. The doctor advised him to be hospitalized immediately and appropriate medication schedule adjustments. However, he had important meetings scheduled on March 15 at 6 p.m. and a media event on March 16. Despite severe and intense symptoms, he completed the above meetings with the support of painkillers.

Sadhguru developed a decline in his level of consciousness and weakness in the left leg on March 17. He was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals under the care of Dr. Vinit Suri. A CT scan revealed a marked increase in brain swelling, and a decision was made to operate.

Sadhguru was managed by a medical team of doctors, including Dr. Vinit Suri, Dr. Pranav Kumar, Dr. Sudheer Tyagi, and Dr. S Chatterjee. Sadhguru underwent an emergency brain surgery on March 17 for the removal of the bleeding in the skull. He was weaned off the ventilator after surgery. Sadhguru has shown good progress, and his brain, body, and vital parameters have improved.

Sadhguru jokes from his hospital bed after the surgery in a video posted on Instagram. He said that "The Apollo hospital neurosurgeons cut through my skull and tried to find something. But they found nothing... totally empty".

Further, he added, “They gave up and patched it up. Here I am in Delhi, with a patched-up skull but no damage".

His recovery has been good, and according to Dr. Vinit Suri, "Sadhguru is healing himself, apart from the best medical measures instituted by the medical team at Apollo.".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who has undergone brain surgery and wished him a speedy recovery.

"Spoke to @SadhguruJV Ji and wished him good health and a speedy recovery," PM Modi said in a post on X (previously known as Twitter).
