Based on the most recent Johnson & Johnson's announcement, its talc-based baby powder will be phased out globally in 2023 in favour of a cornstarch-based baby powder portfolio. Lawsuits claim that its talcum products cause cancer due to contamination with asbestos. Similar claims in 2020 had led to the company to announce that it would stop the marketing its products in the US and Canada.
As per media reports [Indian Express], the company claims that numerous nations already sell its cornstarch-based infant powder.
J&J has attributed several misconceptions as the cause of the 38,000 or so consumer lawsuits that have been filed in North America.
