The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced the postponement of NEET PG 2025 until further notice. The decision comes in response to the Supreme Court’s directive to conduct the exam in a single-shift. NBEMS now requires additional time to arrange more exam centers to accommodate all candidates simultaneously.
NEET-PG is a national-level entrance exam conducted annually for postgraduate courses like MD, MS, and DNB.
NEET PG was earlier scheduled for June 15, 2025. However, following the Supreme Court’s May 30 directive to conduct the exam in a single-shift, NBEMS issued an official notice stating it requires more time to arrange approximately 900 new centers and implement necessary security measures.
In the notice, NBEMS stated, “We, accordingly, direct the respondents to make necessary arrangements for holding the NEET-PG 2025 examination in one shift, duly ensuring that complete transparency is maintained and secure centers are identified and commissioned.”
The Supreme Court’s verdict followed a petition pointing to the unfairness and inconsistencies with the two-shift format, where the difficulty levels of paper could vary, leaving candidates’ results dependent on the shifts they were assigned. The bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Kumar, and NK Anjaria emphasized the need for a uniform standard in national-level examinations.
As a result, the Supreme Court directed that NEET PG must be conducted in a single-shift to ensure equal assessment for all. The bench also mentioned that NBEMS can appeal for extension to ensure the smooth process.
Revised Dates
NBEMS has not given any information regarding the new date announcement. Students are advised to check the websites regularly for updates regarding the exam date, admit card release, and all other important notifications.
MedBound Times connected with Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National President of United Doctors Front, to share a message for all candidates:
The last-minute changes just days before the exam have created a lot of uncertainty and anxiety among students. However, the examination board has assured that candidates will be given ample time to adjust to the revised schedule.
