Quackery in the medical field persists in many parts, especially in rural areas. Due to a lack of awareness, most people consider quacks to be their rescuers. This lack of awareness ultimately results in situations where doctors are not respected in front of these quacks. These quacks mislead people by saying that there are no side effects to their so-called foolproof treatments, and the common man starts believing them.

Dr. B. L. Bairwa, who is an MBBS MS surgeon, shared a video on X (formerly known as Twitter) from his Twitter handle, @Lap_surgeon.

The video shows a woman standing while a man slides a steel vessel (in Hindi, ‘lota’) on the navel of a woman. The woman supposedly seems to be in pain. The woman is saying she is feeling pain when he is sliding that steel vessel. The man asked the woman to eat and drink, then only moved from her current position. Then, the man removed the vessel from her navel. In the video, the man is seen laughing. Dr. B. L. Bairwa gave the caption on the video clip, “Kya chal raha hai?” Dr. Bairwa questions users: Can anybody explain what is going on?

Dr. B. L. Bairwa is a world record holder and award-winning surgeon. Besides this, he is a fellow at the American College of Surgeons.

The video collected around 34,800 views on the X platform. This video has polarized public opinion. While many users have justified man’s moves and seen the video as a way for treatment, others have questioned whether it is quackery. Reacting to it, one of the users commented, “Liposuctionam vyamam”. Another user commented, "This reminds me of a baba who used to remove stones without incision, cut under cover of dupatta and stone came out in his blood-stained hands without failure. Alokik shaktiyo se bharpoor hai hamara Hindustan. UNESCO said our medical knowledge is the best in the world (pun)".

Some viewers support this treatment by saying, "Stomach ki Nabi Set Hi rahi hai, jise medicine Science nahi manta, Wo iske liye Sernil Forte Medicine prefer karta hai. Simple as it is, both treatment are equally perfect".

Dr. Munish Kumar, MD, CEO of MedBound & MedBound Times, an attending Neonatologist also commented on this video by saying, “Lack of scientific temperament is a serious issue in our society, and then the lax laws governing quackery”.

This video shows a lack of resources, illiteracy, and awareness in our society. There is a need for proper legal action against such quacks who claim quick, painless healing.
