A Middlesex County grand jury has indicted former Massachusetts doctor Derrick Todd, 52, on three counts of rape and 17 counts of indecent assault and battery, significantly expanding a criminal case involving multiple patients, according to reports by CBS News Boston and WCVB on March 19, 2026.
Prosecutors allege Todd sexually assaulted 11 female patients between the ages of 20 and 60 while treating them at Charles River Medical Associates in Framingham between 2021 and 2023.
Todd is scheduled to be arraigned on March 25, 2026, in Middlesex Superior Court.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said the case represents “an extraordinary exploitation of a patient’s vulnerability,” as reported by WCVB.
According to prosecutors, Todd used his position as a physician to carry out assaults during scheduled medical appointments while acting as the treating doctor, presenting the conduct as legitimate care. The alleged abuse occurred within the clinical setting, where patients were dependent on his professional authority.
Performed medically unnecessary pelvic and breast examinations
Conducted procedures without proper qualifications or certification
Extended examinations for unusually long periods, in some cases up to 45 minutes
Made inappropriate sexual remarks during examinations
Carried out procedures that were painful and outside accepted medical standards
Some of the procedures were described as pelvic floor therapy, which prosecutors say Todd was not trained to perform.
Prosecutors say the assaults followed a pattern and took place while patients were in vulnerable positions, often partially undressed during exams.
In one previously reported allegation cited by CBS News Boston, a patient said Todd continued an invasive procedure for about 15 minutes despite repeated requests for him to stop.
The new indictment adds to an existing criminal case.
In 2025, Todd was charged with two counts of rape linked to incidents in December 2022 and June 2023 at the same Framingham practice.
The latest indictment significantly broadens the scope of the case, introducing additional victims and allegations spanning multiple years.
Beyond the criminal proceedings, Todd faces extensive civil litigation. More than 200 former patients have filed lawsuits accusing him of sexual abuse and misconduct, with many claims centered on unnecessary intimate examinations. Several of the cases have been consolidated into a broader legal action.
Todd previously worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital before agreeing to stop practicing medicine in 2023 amid an internal investigation into his conduct.
He was also affiliated with Charles River Medical Associates, where many of the alleged incidents occurred.
Todd’s attorneys said the allegations remain unproven and that he intends to vigorously defend himself.
Charles River Medical Associates said it is deeply troubled by the allegations and acknowledged the patients who have come forward.
