Perrysburg, Ohio- A local doctor has been arrested and is now facing multiple felony charges after a young infant was brought to the hospital with severe injuries that raised serious concerns for investigators.
Dr. Hanuman Gowda, 31, was arrested on January 9 by the Perrysburg Police Department and booked into the Wood County Jail. Authorities charged him with four counts of endangering children and two counts of felonious assault. The case has drawn widespread attention because it involves a 10-week-old baby who doctors found had multiple fractures.
The investigation began after the infant was taken to a Toledo-area hospital on January 4. According to reports, the baby appeared to be in pain, prompting the visit.
Hospital staff performed scans and found fractures in both arms, both legs, and three ribs. Medical staff also noted that the injuries appeared to be in different stages of healing, suggesting the fractures may not have happened all at once. That detail increased concern and led hospital employees to contact authorities.
Police said the baby was brought in by Gowda and another adult. Both reportedly told staff they did not know how the infant sustained the injuries.
As the case moved forward, investigators arrested Gowda and filed felony charges tied to the infant’s injuries. Authorities have not publicly shared further details about what may have caused the fractures, and they have not released a motive.
The baby’s condition and long-term recovery have not been publicly discussed, but the number of injuries described in reports has deeply concerned many in the community. Cases involving infants often move quickly because children that young cannot explain what happened or protect themselves.
Following the arrest, ProMedica confirmed that Gowda worked as a resident physician at ProMedica Hospital in Monroe. The healthcare system placed him on administrative leave while the case continues.
ProMedica stated that the charges are not related to his duties at the hospital, but the organization emphasized that patient safety remains its priority. The hospital also indicated it will cooperate with the investigation as needed.
Court records show that Gowda’s bond was set at $250,000. He is expected to return to court on January 15 as the legal process continues.
At this stage, the charges remain allegations, and Gowda is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
