A Chennai-based doctor traveling on the Vande Bharat Express recently lost his watch during the journey. Demonstrating exceptional efficiency, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered the valuable item within just 40 minutes of the report. The incident highlights the Indian Railways’ prompt response to passenger concerns and the effectiveness of its lost-and-found procedures.

The passenger on the Vande Bharat Express heading to Egmore lost a valuable item, but the swift recovery has impressed social media users.

How the Incident Unfolded

Sharing his experience on X, a passenger praised Southern Railways and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for their prompt response after he reported a lost watch.

The passenger, Dr. Mariano Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, a neurosurgeon from Chennai, had accidentally left his wristwatch in the washroom of the Vande Bharat Express.

After arriving at Egmore Station at 11 pm on October 17, he realized the watch was missing once he got home. By 12:28 am, he submitted a detailed complaint on the RailMadad website, providing his PNR, coach and seat number, along with a description of the incident.

The RPF responded without delay, conducting a thorough search on the train. Within 40 minutes, the watch was located and returned to the doctor, ensuring minimal inconvenience.

IRCTC Coordination

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), responsible for catering and passenger support on the Vande Bharat Express, facilitated communication between the passenger and the RPF. Their coordination played a key role in the swift recovery of the watch, demonstrating the seamless cooperation between different railway authorities.

Passenger Appreciation

The doctor expressed his gratitude to both the RPF and IRCTC for their rapid and efficient handling of the situation. He noted that the quick recovery not only safeguarded his personal belongings but also reinforced his confidence in the services provided by Indian Railways.

Timeline Shared by the Doctor

Southern Railways and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) responded remarkably quickly to the doctor’s report. Dr. Mariano Anto Bruno Mascarenhas shared a detailed timeline of the swift actions taken after he filed his complaint:

  • 12:31 am: Received a call from the Railway Helpline confirming the complaint

  • 12:34 am: Received an SMS from the Railway Helpline

  • 12:49 am: RPF called to inform that the train had reached the yard and instructed him to check there

  • 01:12 am: Received a WhatsApp message with two photos of the watch

  • 01:13 am: Second call from RPF confirming they had found a watch and wanted to verify if it was his

Dr. Mascarenhas praised the team, saying, “This is outstanding work from everyone involved. Honestly, this wasn’t really a complaint — the watch was left on the train by mistake. A dozen staff members worked within 40 minutes of my online report at midnight, through no fault of their own.”
