Hopkinsville, Kentucky: What began as a routine home delivery turned into a shocking discovery for a Kentucky woman on Wednesday, October 30. Expecting medical supplies, she opened a package on her porch and instead found two human arms and four fingers packed on ice.
According to Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel, the woman had ordered regular medical supplies when a series of logistical mistakes caused a box of cadaver parts which was intended for a medical training facility got delivered to her home.
"Yes, true story," Daniel told NBC News. "She was expecting medical supplies and found arms and fingers in the box."
The Hopkinsville resident immediately called 911 in panic after opening the package. Daniel arrived at the scene around 8 p.m. and took the remains to the county morgue for safekeeping overnight.
Investigators confirmed that the shipment was not sent through major carriers such as USPS or FedEx but by a private courier service. The error appears to have resulted from a combination of mistakes by multiple parties involved in the transport process.
"It was a perfect storm where everybody might have made a mistake," Daniel said in a statement to WSMV4.
The following day, the courier retrieved the misplaced package and successfully delivered it to the intended medical training facility. The woman eventually received her correct order of medical supplies.
Interesting fact: More than a billion packages lost or stolen from May 2021 to April 2022, as per report by Penn Parcel Box.
Neighbors were horrified by the incident. “I open boxes every day, and I would just die. I would scream and run away if that happened to me,” said Hopkinsville resident Kamela Stewart.
While officials confirmed that the incident posed no public safety risk, they described it as one of the most unusual calls in recent memory. “We get a lot of strange calls,” Daniel added. “This was just another strange call.”
