Bhopal, December 10, 2025: A trivial dispute over noodles at Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal, escalated into a violent incident on the night of December 4, 2025. The clash resulted in the suspension of 15 students, multiple injuries, and an FIR against six students.

It started as a disagreement about who would be served first at the Sudhamrit cafeteria and later turned into a brutal confrontation involving iron rods, sticks, and batons, leaving a senior resident doctor fighting for his life in the ICU.

The Incident: From Queue Dispute to Campus Violence

The chaos unfolded around midnight when MBBS students, returning from AIIMS Bhopal's Retina Fest, stopped at Sudhamrit Cafe for a late-night snack. Some students were allegedly intoxicated, and what began as a simple argument over the serving order quickly spiraled out of control.

The confrontation reportedly centered on the presence of day scholars at the canteen during nighttime hours, a point of contention that had been brewing between hostel residents and day scholars. Within minutes, the verbal disagreement transformed into a full-scale brawl that engulfed the campus premises.

Victims of Violence: Doctor Critical, Student Injured

The most seriously injured victim is Dr. Shailesh Chaudhary, a senior resident who attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation. According to reports, Dr. Chaudhary was brutally beaten by the aggressive students and sustained severe head and body injuries. He had to be admitted to the ICU.

Paras Maraiya, a first-year MBBS student from the 2024 batch, was allegedly cornered and assaulted by approximately 15 senior students wielding sticks. He suffered injuries to his arm and shoulder and was discharged after receiving treatment.

Administrative Response: Swift but Overdue Action

GMC administration convened an emergency meeting on December 5 to address the gravity of the situation. Dean Dr. Kavita N. Singh ordered the immediate suspension of 15 students allegedly involved in the clash.

In a strong statement, Dr. Singh described the incident as "grave indiscipline" and emphasized that medical students are expected to demonstrate maturity, restraint, and professionalism at all times. "Violence on campus will not be tolerated. Strict action will continue," she declared.

Legal Action: FIR Filed Against Six Students

Based on Paras Maraiya's complaint, Koh-e-Fiza police station registered an FIR on December 7 against six GMC students: Pushpendra Singh Kain, Ajay Brahmane, Shivam Mahavar, Dev, Vivek Malviya, and Aman. The charges include causing injuries, criminal intimidation, and issuing threats.

Police authorities have stated that further action will be taken following a thorough investigation into the incident.

A Disturbing Pattern: 36 Disputes in One Year

What makes this incident particularly alarming is that it is not an isolated event. According to reports, Gandhi Medical College has witnessed more than 36 disputes between hostelers and day scholars in the past year alone.
