A government doctor was found dead inside a parked car outside the Sector 10 Polyclinic in Ambala City on Tuesday, prompting a police investigation into the unexplained death. The deceased, Dr. Nandan Kumar Jha, was posted at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Patrehri and had previously served at the Sector 10 Polyclinic. Staff members alerted police after discovering his body inside the vehicle, while investigators continue to await the findings of the medico-legal post-mortem.

PTI reported that staff arriving for duty at the Sector 10 Polyclinic noticed a car that had remained parked outside the premises for several days. Growing suspicious, they checked the vehicle and found Dr. Jha's body on the back seat before informing the police.

Local police and a forensic team reached the scene, secured the vehicle, and began collecting evidence. Officers recovered a liquor bottle, a glass, and a bag containing clothes from the car, which police believe belonged to Dr. Jha.

Police said no visible external injury marks were found on Dr. Jha's body, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation while officials await the medico-legal post-mortem findings.

Speaking to The Tribune, the SHO of Sector 9 Police Station said, "The doctor lived in a rented accommodation in Sector 10. We have been told by the neighbors that he used to drink heavily. The doctor's wife had died a few months ago, due to which he was upset. The couple had no children." The officer also confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being examined as part of the inquiry.

According to Jagran, Dr. Nandan Kumar Jha, 48, was a resident of Lahata village in Bihar's Darbhanga district and joined the Haryana Health Department in 2011. During his career, he served at the District Civil Hospital, the Civil Surgeon's office, and the Sector 10 Polyclinic between 2016 and 2025.

Jagran reported that he was briefly posted to Faridabad on mutual adjustment before returning to Ambala. He was later transferred to the Primary Health Centre in Patrehri to complete the rural service required for promotion.

In unexplained deaths, a medico-legal post-mortem helps establish the medical cause of death and may identify internal disease, poisoning, alcohol or drug intoxication, or other conditions that are not evident during an external examination.

According to PTI, Dr. Jha's family has been informed, and police are continuing their inquiry while awaiting the autopsy findings. The report is expected to help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
