A 24-year-old hospital manager, who was also a BSC Nursing student, was arrested in Chandauli on Saturday for operating on a woman in the absence of a doctor.
This case is similar to many other reported incidents across the country about patients who have died or had to deal with health consequences after being treated by quack doctors.
The incident happened at Indra Hospital in Mahraiya village under Dhanapur police station.
According to the reports, a 27-year-old woman named Suman was hospitalized at Indra Hospital on August 18 due to a uterus-related issue.
Suman’s father, Chandravali Bind, a resident of Lakhaipur village within the jurisdiction of the Dheena police station, has lodged a formal complaint regarding the situation.
As reported by TOI, Bind said that Suman was taken for surgery on August 19. Indrajeet Prajapati, the hospital manager, conducted Suman’s surgery in the absence of a doctor.
Bind said that Indrajeet used the “Dr.” prefix before his name and considered himself to be a doctor enough to perform the surgery.
However, while performing the surgery, Indrajeet allegedly cut the wrong vein, which caused immense damage to Suman’s Kidney.
Suman’s condition got worse after the procedure, and she died later that night.
According to the police, the CMO's inquiry found that Prajapati possessed no medical degree or diploma qualifying him to practise medicine or perform any kind of surgery; in fact, he was just a BSC Nursing student who worked as a hospital manager.
Prajapati was originally from Raipur Babhniav Village in Dhanapur. He was working at Indra Hospital as a hospital manager. He pretended to be a doctor, and the villagers who resided in the area also knew him as a doctor.
During questioning, Prajapati allegedly admitted to performing the surgery in the absence of the scheduled doctor on August 19.Quack Doctor Accused of Causing Death, Bail Plea Rejected By Punjab and Haryana High Court

According to the officials, the hospital’s registration has been cancelled, and the health department has recommended that the facility be sealed after an investigation by the Chief Medical Officer.
A medical inquiry found Prajapati responsible for medical negligence, leading to his arrest on culpable homicide charges after a formal case was registered.
As per the reports, Dhanpur SHO Surya Prakash Mishra said that a case was registered against Indrajeet Prajapati at Dhanapur police station under section 105 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita after Bind’s complaint.
After the investigation, the CMO said that Prajapati had cut the wrong vein during the surgery, due to which Suman’s condition deteriorated and she died.
According to the reports, it was also found that Prajapati was admitting and treating patients himself, and no doctor or other medical staff were present at the facility.
Police arrested Prajapati from Indra Hospital in Mahraiya at around 5 a.m. on October 3 following information from an informer. Prajapati was sent to jail, and further investigation is underway.
