A woman in Bihar, driven by superstitious beliefs, sacrificed a 2-year-old boy with the help of four others in the Kaimur District, hoping that it would help her daughter to conceive. The accused were arrested on 6th February.

During police interrogation, the woman broke down saying her daughter was married and despite medical treatment, she was childless. As she was unable to conceive, her husband and in-laws tortured her and threatened with a second marriage. The woman allegedly contacted an exorcist, who assured her that sacrificing a young boy would grant her daughter to conceive. Believing this, she along with 4 others hatched a plan to abduct the young boy, and with a grader machine, the woman chopped off the boy’s legs, strangled him and dumped the body in the bushes.

The young boy, originally from Gazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, had traveled with his mother to attend a family wedding. While playing outside his grandmother’s home, the boy went missing, prompting his uncle to lodge a missing report with Kudra police. This harsh incident led to the killing of the innocent young boy, whose decomposed body was recovered a week later from a pit at Kudra railway station, said Hari Mohan Shukla, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kaimur. He also added that the accused had covered the mud flooring with concrete where the sacrifice took place to hide the evidence.

The five are arrested including the woman and 4 others involved in the crime. The exorcist has been identified, and police raids are underway to snatch him down
