A 36-year-old Ayurvedic doctor allegedly threatened to crash the plane if the crew didn’t follow her instructions. The incident happened on June 17 on an Air India Express flight IX2749 from Bengaluru to Surat.
Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, a resident of Shivanahalli near Yelahanka, Bengaluru, created a disturbance over her luggage, which delayed the flight by two hours.
‘I’ll Crash the Plane’: The Threat
Reports say that during security check-in, she refused to check in her bags and insisted on carrying both into the cabin. After boarding, she left one of the bags near the cabin crew in a restricted area and went to take her seat (20F).
When the crew asked her to place her other bag in the overhead bin, she refused and told them to keep it with them instead. After being told several times, she started shouting and creating a scene.
Fellow passengers tried to reason with her, telling her this is how the system works, but she ended up abusing them, too.
Eventually, she allegedly said she would crash the plane if her request wasn’t followed—a remark that was not taken lightly.
What Happened After
The crew immediately alerted airport police, and CISF personnel were called in. According to the complaint filed by Agnimitra Bahinipati, associate manager of security at Kempegowda International Airport, the incident took place between 2:45 PM and 5:30 PM.
She was arrested, and an FIR was registered against her at the Kempegowda International Airport Police Station.
Her behavior didn’t stop there either. At the station, she allegedly assaulted a staff member and continued shouting and creating a scene. One officer said it was the first time he had seen anyone use such abusive language inside the police station.
The FIR was filed under Sections 351(4) and 353(1)(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal intimidation and making statements that cause public mischief.
What Her Husband Told the Police
Her husband, who works at an educational institution in Odisha, told the police that she had quit her medical practice and was visiting family in Gujarat. He also said she had caused public disturbances before.
Police are now looking into her past behavior and background.
