Domestic Violence Horror: West Bengal Man Bites Off Wife’s Nose Over Her Looks

Disturbing Domestic Incident Shocks Nadia District

MBT Desk

In one of the most horrifying instances of domestic violence, a woman from West Bengal's Nadia district was attacked after her husband hacked off her nose, merely because he felt she was "too pretty." The gruesome assault occurred in the dead of night on May 2 at Bairpara under the Hantipur police station's jurisdiction.

Late-night screams lead to a gruesome discovery

Neighbors awoke around 3 am to the couple's screams coming from their house. Residents quickly gathered outside and were shocked to witness the victim, Madhu, with blood on her face.

She soon told the people around her that her husband, Bapan Sheikh, had assaulted her while they were arguing. Amazingly, she claimed that he had threatened to "cut off her nose" one day, and that evening, he did.

The threat history becomes real

Madhu Khatun, with her mother, lodged the complaint at the Shantipur police station later that morning.

He used to say that if he ever got the chance, he would bite off my nose. He finally did exactly that

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a 25–30% surge in domestic violence reports globally, with lockdowns trapping victims at home with abusers. In the U.S., 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, including injury, stalking, or rape.

Local officials have confirmed that a case has been filed, and the incident is under investigation. There were no reports of arrests at the time of writing.

Anger and local response on social media

The violence of the act has triggered universal outrage both on and off social media. As news traveled through the media, social media was filled with anger. Users were sharing their shock, and one of the most trending phrases was: "Who is this man?"

Locals in the neighborhood have complained about the increasing cases of domestic violence and have called for swift action by the law enforcement agencies.
