In a recent development, insurance tech start-up Covrzy has joined hands with Namma Yatri to make health insurance affordable and accessible for thousands of drivers and their families.
Strategic Collaboration
Bengaluru-based tech insurance start-up Covrzy has collaborated with Namma Yatri, India’s fastest-growing mobility and driver-first transportation platform. The deal was finalized recently through an official agreement between the two companies.
This collaboration aims to embed Covrzy’s health insurance options into the Namma Yatri driver-facing app, making them easily accessible to all of its drivers and their families.
This allows drivers to discover and compare all the available health insurance options and purchase the one suitable for their needs, with minimal paperwork and instant digital access, making the entire process seamless.
Why This Was Needed
This first-of-its-kind initiative aims to protect gig workers in India, who are often uninsured or underinsured despite forming the backbone of India's transportation ecosystem. The goal is to give them the financial security they deserve.
The partnership is expected to empower over 50,000 drivers across the country by 2026, starting with more than 3,000 auto and cab drivers in Bengaluru. In the next 12 to 18 months, it is set to expand to cities like Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Kolkata, and Kochi.
As Namma Yatri plans to expand operations into 10+ tier-one and tier-two cities, this will ensure broader access to insurance coverage.
Benefits to Drivers
With this initiative, drivers will be able to:
Access insurance from top-rated providers
Raise claim requests directly from the app
Track renewals and download their policies easily
Access cashless treatment across thousands of hospitals
View network hospitals
Avail hospitalization coverage up to ₹3,00,000
Get OPD and wellness support
Add spouses and children through family floater options
What the Founders Said
Ankit Kamra, Founder of Covrzy, highlighted the mission behind the move:
“Millions of drivers form the backbone of India’s mobility ecosystem, yet many remain uninsured or underinsured. Our partnership with Namma Yatri aims to bridge this gap by providing accessible, quality health coverage to India’s gig workforce.”
Shan M S, Co-founder of Namma Yatri, added:
“Empowering our driver captains starts with ensuring their well-being. Through this collaboration, we are making health insurance simple, accessible, and tailored to their real needs—reinforcing a fair and transparent driver-first ecosystem.”
Implementation
To help drivers understand and use these benefits better, physical awareness drives will be conducted at auto stands. On-ground help desks, in-app guides, FAQs, and videos in local languages will also be provided.
Background of the Platforms
Covrzy is an insurance platform that integrates into any digital ecosystem and supports both commercial and individual products.
Namma Yatri, developed by Juspay and backed by Softbank, follows a zero-commission, subscription-based model and is part of the government-backed network for digital commerce.
Why It Matters
At a time when most gig workers in India are left without health coverage, this collaboration could offer not just financial support but peace of mind to thousands of families.
